The European Union and a Crisis of its Own Making
In 2020, UNHCR reported that 1,116 people died while attempting to cross the Mediterranean Sea from North Africa and Turkey to Europe (not including those lost at sea). The Migration Crisis on Europe’s southern border is only one aspect of a politics of migration that is a fundamental characteristic of the European Union (EU) and its right of the free movement of peoples.

Lunch and Learn: Impact of COVID-19 on Social Service Delivery in the Nanaimo Region
COVID-19 has severely affected local social service delivery. While service organizations should be commended for their prompt and innovative responses to initial shutdowns and the required shift to virtual service delivery and/or development of new safety measures for face to face contact, the service users most on the margins have likely struggled with access. Join Jeanette Schmidt and Holly Bradley as they review their preliminary with local service providers, reflecting on the impact of COVID-19 on service delivery.

Soup and Bannock: How Faculty Engagement in Inclusivity Leads to Student Success
For a campus to develop a truly inclusive culture, faculty must take a leadership role in that effort. Join VIU’s Fulbright Canada Jarislowsky Foundation Visiting Scholar Dr. Maria Williams to learn about a model being implemented by the University of Alaska (Anchorage) that is making a positive difference in the area of equity and inclusion by including Alaska Native themed courses as a requirement of all full time students.
