Trip Information
This is one of our favourite trips! We'll hold an end-of-the-year picnic at beautiful Rathtrevor Beach in Parksville. This park offers excellent ocean swimming opportunities; on a low tide the ocean recedes almost a kilometer; when the tide rolls back in over the hot sand, the warmed water is unbeatable for swimming and saltwater fun. There is also a big grassy field to play lawn and beach games, or to just roll out your towel and bask in the sun with your friends. The park is also home to several species of wildlife, including deer, raccoons, squirrels, otters, mink, eagles, osprey, hawks, vultures, and owls. Many shore and migratory birds also use the park area during their spring and fall migrations.
What to Wear:
- Appropriate clothing and footwear for the weather

- Umbrella or rain coat (in case it rains)
- Water bottle
- A backpack to carry all your items
- Beach Games
- Camera

How to Sign Up
Our activities are available to all current VIU Students. Sign up with us in person, next to the Front Reception Desk in the "Glassroom" on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12pm – 1:30pm in Building 255 - Second Floor.
You will need to have your:
- Student card,
- Proof of medical insurance (BC Care Card or Guard.me Insurance Policy)
- Payment (cash is currently the only method of payment for activities)
Waiver Form
Please read our general waiver form for VIU group activities in the attachment section below. All participants are required to read and sign the waiver before the start of the trip. We will provide a paper copy for you to read through again and sign the morning of the trip.
